Nigeria: Delta Community Alleges Extrajudicial Killing By Soldiers

Warri — THE Okorowhe community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State has petitioned the National Security Adviser, NSA, over the killing of one Mr. Ovo Ezewu, allegedly shot dead by men of 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army and buried at an unknown place.

President-General of the community, Mr. Lucky Okpini, in a statement, said the late Ezewu was a recognised vigilante member of the community but was allegedly tagged a cultist by some persons who invited soldiers from the Battalion. He said the soldiers allegedly shot Mr. Ovo and arrested other persons, including an 85 years old man.

It was learnt that the business of sand dredging in the community had drawn the irk of some persons leading to acrimony until the death of Mr. Ovo on August 1, 2012 when the soldiers invaded the place.
