President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has, with immediate effect, suspended 46 officials in her government, predominantly junior officers and county superintendents for failure to declare their assets to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission.
At the inception of her second term, the President mandated all officials nominated to public offices to declare their assets 14 days after taking office as part of the government's transparency and accountability measures in the public sector.
But most of the officials have apparently reneged in complying with the presidential directive, executing their respective functions in the midst of widespread improprieties.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the suspension will remain in force until President Sirleaf receives confirmation from the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission that those affected have met the Assets Declaration requirements.
Before being reinstated, the suspended officials will also be required to pay into government revenue an amount representing the value of their salaries and allowances for the period of suspension, the release added.
President Sirleaf has also requested heads of government parastatals to extend similar punitive action to other officials not appointed by her, but who are required to declare their assets, including comptrollers and financial officers.
The Executive Mansion named those suspended as follows:
Hon. E. Othello Gongar - Commissioner, Governance Commission

bravo madam president, but pls tell ur cabinet ministers to do so or face suspention.
I hope you steak to this plan madam Sirleaf.
suspension not enough for those guys please fire them, because they disrespected you, madam president. you give them too much time to declare their assets and they fail.
If this suspension is something proves Accountability and Transparency, I say Bravo!!!!! But if it is a joke to Liberian, I say beware!!!!
