Kenya Post Mixed Juniors' Results

Kenya girls wallop Malawians 11-0 but boys get whipped 5-1 at Nairobi City Stadium KENYA posted mixed results on the first day of the Airtel Rising Stars Under 17 championships at the City Stadium yesterday. The girls sidee, Kenya 1, took off on the right footing, proving too much for their Malawian opponents to run away 11-0 winners.

Vivian Adhiambo was the main attraction as she netted five times to help the hosts take a 7-0 lead at the break. Florence Owino was also a thorn in the Malawian side as she netted a hat-trick while Agnes Waithera scored a brace. Barongo Divinah was the weakest link on the Kenyan score sheet with a solitary strike.

However, the same could not be said of the boys side, Kenya 1, who fell 5-1 to Malawi in a one sided fixture. Kuchisanja Wongan opened the scoring for the visitors 13 minutes into the match as Kenya took time to settle. The visitors made minced meat of the hosts with a huge chunk on the ball possession and this was evident as Ignacious Makoloni scored a quick brace in the 23rd and 25th minute to leave the Kenyan fans on the stands heartbroken.

Makoloni's strikes were as a result of a spirited fight by the Malawian forwards with the Kenyan goalie left for dead in the first while the second was from the penalty spot after Diang'a Victor handled Kuchisanja's goal-bound strike. Chrispine Omondi pulled one back for the hosts after 36 minutes to see Malawi take a 3-1 lead into the break.

On resumption, Malawi were quick off the blocks with Makoloni setting up Martin Kapinda to make it 4-1 in the opening minute of the half. Kenya 1, who are interestingly the first team of Kisumu Day Secondary lacked ideas in the half and were lucky to prevent makoloni from netting a hat-trick after 55 minutes.

However, their luck was outlived as Frank Kadamanja killed off the game at the hour mark. The matches move to the St mary's grounds this morning where girls Kenya 2 will be up against Ghana while the Kenya 1 boys side will face former world champions Ghana at 11am with Kenya 2 up against Sierra Leone at 3pm.
