Nigeria: Religious Harmony - Christian Youths Visit El-Zakzaky in Kaduna

Hundreds of Christian and Muslim youths paid a Sallah homage to a prominent Islamic Cleric, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky as part of efforts to promote togetherness and peaceful coexistence among adherents of the two religion in Kaduna State.

The youth under the umbrella body of Christian/Muslim Youth Initiatives of Nigeria, appealed for the cleric to support their peace project and initiative in the state.

The leader of the delegations, Mr. Diji Haruna, who spoke at the residence of the Islamic preacher, said their visit was to wish him well and also to identify with him as ambassador of peace, saying the advocacy visit was to promote mutual understanding that could overshadow religious sentiments.

Mr.Diji, who doubles as the chairman, youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna branch, sought the support of the cleric towards promoting peaceful co-existence among the people of the state.

According to him, the mission of the group is to expand the peace advocacy through the establishment of branches across the 23 local governments in the state.

Responding, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky commended the youth for their positive contributions towards sustenance of peace and understanding among religious faithful in the country.

El-Zakzaky blamed western powers for the worrisome state of insecurity with the intention to cause confusion which would serve as platform for exploitation of wealth.

He observed that the political class in the country had also accelerated the ethnic and tribal division among many Nigerians and religious faithful, stressing the need for Christians and Muslims to come together to fight the syndrome.
