Nigeria: Zamfara Legislator Faults Commissioner's Claim On Flood Victims

Gusau — A member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Shinkafi, Alhaji Mohammed G. Ahmad has faulted the claim by the state commissioner of environment, Alhaji Mukhtar Mohammed Luga that the state government has provided accommodation for victims of flood in Jangeru village in Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The commissioner in an interview with our correspondent said, "The people of Jangeru were displaced as a result of flood few years ago. The state government has built houses for them but some of them refused to relocate. We will soon seek warrant of evacuation to move those who are adamant."

Reacting to this, Ahmad said, "They were only given plots of land and not houses as you people reported. Even their farmlands, nothing was done about them by the state government. Since their farmlands were washed away, their houses destroyed, you cannot expect them to have money to build the plots given to them."
