Kenya: Poor Sports Facilities

Athletics Kenya chair Isaiah Kiplagat has decried the state of sporting facilities in the country saying they are not up to par for any international event. Noting that facilities were in disrepair, Kiplagat said the local authorities are to blame for failing to maintain and construct game facilities in their jurisdictions.

"Local authorities do not understand their roles in provision of services. They have misplaced priorities," said Kiplagat. Kiplagat also questioned the ability of counties to successfully hold any major event in the regions. "In Kisumu people are dumping garbage outside the stadium. It is a low altitude area that can host international athletes but who will go to such a place?" asked Kiplagat.
