Uganda: Some Facts On Recently Promoted Army Officers

Col. Muhoozi Kainerugaba completed advanced military training in South Africa.

Maj. Gen. Fred Mugisha

Born in 1963, he was the commander of the Field Artillery Division based in Masindi. He was then promoted and appointed overall commander of the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

He is Soviet-trained in artillery and air defence, having attended Simferopol Academy between 1987 and 1989. He has also attended training in the US, Tanzania, India, China, Egypt and South Africa.

Mugisha previously served under various capacities, including being the deputy chief of intelligence.

Maj. Gen. Charles Angina

He is one of the representatives of the army in the Ninth Parliament. He was formerly Chief of Staff of the Land Forces before he was transferred to the General Court Martial as chairman.

So, it can be said that being appointed Chief of Staff of the Land Forces is only a return to his former post.

Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba

Born on April 24, 1974, he has undergone training from the Royal Military College Sandhurst, UK Egyptian Military Academy, Egypt and Kalama Warfare Training School, Kabamba.

He has also been trained fromthe Uganda United States Army Command and the General Staff College and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, US.

Before his new appointment, he was the commander of the Special Forces Group.

Muhoozi recently completed the Executive National Security Programme run at the South African National Defence College.

Col. Sabiiti Mzeeyi

He has been the deputy to Brig. Kainerugaba as the commander of the Presidential Guard Brigade, which is a unit under the Special Forces Guard.

Maj. Don Nabaasa

He has been the commander of the Second Tank Battalion and Motorised Infantry in the Presidential Guard Brigade under Col. Sabiiti.
