Sudan club side, Al-Merreikh's coach Ricardo Heron wants his players to build on the spirit that earned them a valuable away 1-1 draw against their arch-rivals Al-Hilal in the previous round. Merreikh hosts fellow Sudanese side Al-Ahly Shandy in match day 3 clash of the group phase of the 2012 Orange CAF Confederation Cup in the Sudanese city of Omdurman.
Ricardo told Cafonline.com he see no obstacles that will prevent his side from getting all three points against Shandy.
You got a hard fought point against Al-Hilal away how does that result play into the equation ahead of home match against Ahly Shandy?
It will give the players more confidence. It will give us spirit and make us play as one group. We played against Al-Hilal under very difficult conditions. The draw we got was mainly because of the players' effort. We cannot collect a point away from home and fail to collect the full points at home in the Red Castle against Ahly Shandy.
So how do you see the outcome of this coming Friday's match?
We respect Ahly Shandy but we are playing at home and it means three points that we wish to collect on our home ground. They are a well-drilled side, but Al-Merreikh have to play to their strength and we do and show our true technical ability in our own backyard, we will win.
How have preparations gone considering that the Sudan Supper League took a break during the month of Ramadan?
We are still to find out more from our players who participated with the national team in Tunisia. They may be suffering from exhaustion and other factors. The players who have been with us here in Sudan have trained well. We have to play our match against Ahly Shandy under these conditions. We don't have any other option.
How is your squad for the match looking ?
I am happy that all the present players in the team have are ready and been training well. We have players who can replace those absent and carry out what is required of them. We will be missing Badreldin Galag and Nasreldin Al-Shghiel but we have players who can fill the gap they left behind.
Why do you think you will win this match?
The high morale of the players, in addition to commitment and confidence between the team and the administration, on the one hand, the supporters of the team, on the other.
