Al-Azhar vehemently condemned a series of recent attacks on Muslim Sufi shrines, tombs and mosques in Libya.

In a statement on Monday 27/8/2012, Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed el-Tayyeb said desecrating the graves of Muslim scholars and insulting them by carrying their remains in garbage bags and burying them in unknown places is a crime by all means and norms.
