Nigeria: Ex-Banker Asks CBN to Drop New Naira Note Idea

Owerri — As more reactions continue to trail the planned introduction of N5000 note in the country, the authorities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been advised to drop the idea in the interest of the economy of the country.

Former Manager, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Mr. Felix Jude Osugbonekwu said in Owerri Tuesday that the new naira note would increase inflation in the country.

He said the earlier the CBN withdraws from such project the better because it will not pay Nigerians but will rather increase their woes.

On the faces of the three women to appear in the note, the former banker commended the effort of the women who struggled for emancipation of the country.

He said that the women deserve the encouragement of the country because they have done a lot for Nigeria.

According to him, Mrs. Margaret Ekpo, Fumilayo Kuti and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba struggled to bring the women of this country into limelight and fought for the interest of the women.

A political leader in Owerri zone, Prince Charles said that the essence of the introduction of the new naira note was to make it easier for people to move with money.

According to him everything that has positive implications also has its negative implications.
