At least 60, 000 residents in Magarini and Malindi face starvation following poor rains. The National and Drought Management Authority officer-in-charge Roman Shera said the residents need relief food urgently. Speaking to journalists in his office yesterday Shera said crops have dried due to failed rains.
"We conducted a survey for a week with my department and the Kenya Food Security Steering Committee from Nairobi and that is when we realized that such a big number of people are facing hunger," he said. Sheru said the survey revealed that there was a shortage of water in the area.
