Nigeria: Okonkwo Turns 67

The Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) Dr. Mike Okonkwo will be 67 on Thursday, September 6.

Activities lined up to mark the 67th birthday include, the 13th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture scheduled for Wednesday September 5th 2012, with the topic "Dependence of The Nigeria Economy on Crude Oil Any Alternatives?" at Shell hall, Muson, Onikan Lagos by 9.00 am. The guest speaker is Prof Anya O.Anya (OFR). Gifts will be presented to the winners of the 9th Edition of the Mike Okonkwo Annual Essay Competition on same date. Chief Philip Asiodu (CON) will chair the event. His Excellency the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) is expected to be in attendance as the Host.

Other activities include the special edition of the Men can We Talk Programme with the theme "The Best in Me" On Saturday September 8th, 2012, by 9.00am at the Cathedral of His Glory, TREM International Headquarters. On Sunday, September 9th 2012 is a special Thanks Giving Service with the theme "Jabulani". Expected musical artists are the TREM International Headquarters Choir Evangel Voices and other guest artistes, at the International Headquarters, Obanikoro Anthony Oke, Lagos.

Okonkwo is an Apostle to this generation, whose life has impacted millions around the world. A father to many, and a pastor of many pastors across the globe, he is also a dynamic conference speaker, crusade evangelist, a national spokesman for Nigeria, and an advocate of balanced Christianity.

As the host of "Power in the Word" a life-transforming television and radio broadcast series, Okonkwo's Holy Spirit inspired insight into the Word of God is remarkably outstanding and empowers millions in Nigeria and across the globe. He is also an author whose books have been life-transforming tools in the hands of those who have been privileged to come in contact with them.

Okonkwo graduated from the Morris Cerrullo School of Ministry and the Covington Theological Seminary in USA, and holds several doctorate degrees and honorary awards. He is the Convener of the Communion of Covenant Ministers International (CCMI) a gathering of Pastors designed for Fellowship, Spiritual Covering, Mentoring, Strengthening, and Networking, through conferences, seminars and other interactive sessions. He is a co-host of the National Ministers Conference (NMC) and a member of the National Advisory Council (NAC) of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.

He is the Patron and Founder of the Empowerment for the Less Privileged Foundation, a non-governmental organisation committed to alleviating the plight of the less-privileged in the society through donations to hospitals, establishment of free vocational training centres, running free preparatory schools for students in the secondary schools, and facilitating regular public enlightenment campaigns on health issues amongst others. He also pioneers a scholarship fund for talented students. He is married to Bishop Peace Okonkwo and they are blessed with a daughter, Uche.
