Egypt: Solidarity With Naglaa Waffa

press release

On its final day, participants of the conference "Egypt's new democratic constitution" expressed their serious worries about the situation of the Egyptian Naglaa Wafa who has been detained in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia without trial or legal representation in what is considered a grave violation of international human rights conventions. The participants agreed that the flogging punishment is inhumane and has been condemned long ago.

They called for Morsy's immediate and direct intervention to release the Egyptian detainee and to ensure her complete legal and judicial protection as well as to punish those responsible for her unlawful imprisonment. They also called for an immediate investigation by the Saudi Arabian authorities and to grant the Egyptian citizen her right to legal representation in accordance with the international human rights conventions and in order to preserve the friendly ties between the Egyptian and Saudi people.
