Nigeria: Taraku Mills to Resume Operations Next Year

Makurdi — The new management of the moribund Taraku mills in Benue State has said full scale production of edible oil and processing of different kinds of flour will begin soon.

This development is on the heels of the progress of works presently being carried out by Kumar Metal Industries, the new owners of the ailing mill.

The project manager of the company, Ajay Kumar in a chat with Sunday Trust said operations will commence soon as checking of the necessary machinery has reached an advances stage.

Kumar noted that 200 new hands either through direct or indirect labour will be required immediately to start work and the number will be increased to 400 when full factory operations begins next year.

He also disclosed that the production capacity would include over 1,500 metric tons per day of various high quality food items that would be sold in the Nigerian market for consumers.

The project manager who attested to the integrity of the Indian owned firm established 70 years ago added that the mill was leased by the Benue state government and would be run by them for the 15 years.
