Nigeria: 3,200 Workers Get Promotion in Benue

Makurdi — The Benue State Civil Service Commission said it promoted a total of 3,200 workers in the last one year while 1,000 persons out of its 25,000 workforce were retired within same period.

The chairman of the commission, Mrs Comfort Agoro made the disclosure at an interactive session held with journalists in Makurdi.

According to her, plans are underway to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youths just as measures are being put in place to discipline erring workers and to encourage the committed ones.

Agoro decried the poor mentality of some civil servants who care little about improving on their knowledge, pointing out that such attitude is largely responsible for their inability to plan early for their retirement from service in order to enjoy a worthy life in the long run.

She lamented the sharp practices that have corrupted the public service system, stressing that military regime gave so much room for greed that it has permeated deeply into the structure.
