Nigeria: N5000 Note - CBN Urged to Sensitise People

6 September 2012

Osogbo — The Forum of Ex-Leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to carry out massive sensitization on the benefits of the proposed N5,000 note. Speaking with journalists, the ex-NANS leaders, Comrade Olayemi Success, Comrade Etuk Bassey Williams, Comrade Mohammed Bello and Comrade Casmir Uche Igwe, noted that issuance and management of the currency is part of the core mandate of CBN, and appealed to Nigerians to embrace the new currency. "The CBN proposal is within its core mandate and it is not out of place as some people are saying. It is also part of its mandate to balance the currency structure for the purpose of efficiency," they said.
