Sierra Leone: How Maada Bio Escaped Witchcraft in Kamabai

Kamabai — It was a dramatic event past Saturday when the presidential candidate of the main opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), Brig. Maada Bio (rtd) and his running-mate, Dr. Kadi Sesay, paid an unannounced visit on the Paramount Chief of Biriwa Chiefdom, PC Salifu Sesay III at his Kamabai resident where it was alleged that some individuals performed some traditional ceremony through witchcraft to derail Bio's ambition to become the next president of Sierra Leone.

Though the belief in witchcraft is a universal thing and its practice is said to have disappeared in many countries of the world, many people in African countries including Sierra Leone still believe it exists. The fear of witches in the African society is so dominant that it has almost changed the people in all spheres of life including politics, education, social activities, and religion among others.
