The Gambia Veterans Football Association on Sunday held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Congress at the Gambia National Olympic Committee conference hall along the Bertil Harding Highway. The congress was meant to elect a new executive that will steer the affairs of the association.
Speaking at the event, Mamudou Max Jallow, executive secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) thanked members of the outgoing executive for their hard work and commitment in sustaining the veteran football association, adding that veterans should be role models to the younger generation.
He went on to state that the Sports Council is committed to providing an enabling environment to promote, encourage and develop all national sporting associations. He therefore urged the new executive members to be pro-active and committed to their work for the benefit of the association.
On his part, Amadou Jallow, the outgoing president of the association lamented the lack of adequate funds in the association's bank account, noting that that made their work very difficult. According to him, when they were coming into office, they were not given any report on the activities and financial status of their predecessors. He further stated that finance is very important for any organisation to operate efficiently.
Sankareh Jawo, the new assistant secretary general, who deputised for the secretary general, Essa Faye, said the association was dormant for some time, without activities or programmes. But he was quick to add that, they will always serve as good ambassadors of The Gambia.
Abdou M.C Jallow, former vice president and now the new president of the association thanked the members for electing him. He also thanked the former president for his hard work. He promised to live up to expectation, while calling for team work. He urged those who are not in the executive to join hands and work towards the success of the association, adding that the members should respect the position of their executive.
The new executive members are; Abdou MC Jallow, President; Alhagie ML Conteh, Vice President; Essa Faye, Secretary General; Sankareh Jawo, Assistant Secretary General; Abdoulie MB (Star) Jallow, Treasurer; and Badou Senghore, Assistant Treasurer.
