Kenya: Rogo's Van Had Fake Number Plate - Police

7 September 2012

A probe team investigating the murder of Muslim preacher Sheikh Aboud Rogo has established that the Nissan van vehicle he was using on the day he was shot dead had a fake number plate. Sources yesterday revealed that the owner of the van is registered under Ayub Nasimo's name.

Rogo was killed on August 27 near the Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach on the Mombasa-Malindi highway. His murder sparked off three days of riots in sections of Mombasa. The KAJ 537H number plate was registered to a mini bus and not a Nissan van that Rogo was driving on the day his murder. The chasis number of the van was VRGE24-554618 while the plates belong to chassis number VRGE24-001565.
