Kutum — Adam Mohamed Zakaria was severely injured during an attack by unidentified gunmen in Dalal village, west of Kutum in North Darfur on Saturday September 8.

A relative of the victim told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen, on camels and horses, attacked Zakaria's home with the purpose of looting. When Zakaria tried to fight them, he was shot in his mouth and shoulder. After the attack he was taken to Kutum hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, an armed group looted the office of the 'Zakat Chambers' in Kutum on Saturday. The armed men seized several computers, televisions and other equipment, a witness from Kutum told Radio Dabanga.

UNAMID expresses concern over renewed violence

Meanwhile, UNAMID's leadership expressed deep concern over the renewed violence in Kutum, North Darfur. The violence resulted in casualties among the local population. The Mission said in a press release that the latest incidents came as the locality was still recovering from last month's attacks following the attempt to assasinate a local commissioner and his driver.

The incidents resulted, reportedly, in several dead and wounded. UNAMID evacuated injured civilians to El-Fasher for emergency treatment. In this context, acting Joint Special Representative, Aichatou Mindaoudou, said: "I am saddened that the people of Kutum have again had to endure pain and suffering." She appealed to the Mission and all other involved parties to cease the hostilities and engage in peaceful dialogue.
