Nigeria: Civil Service Is Britain's Best Gift to Nigeria, Says Ekwueme

Nigeria's former Vice President Alex Ekwueme says the country's civil service was the best thing it received from colonial Britain but was damaged two events - later state creation and a purge in the administration of military president Murtala Muhammad.

The former VP said the 1967 expansion of three regions then existent in Nigeria to 12 states caused a "proliferation of permanent secretaries and directors" across the country.
