Liberia: JASAGBV Worries Over Prostitution, Indecent Dress Code

The Journalist Against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (JASAGBV) says its attention has been drawn to the the high wave of prostitution and indecent dress code by some women and girls in the country.

JASAGBV is calling on the Justice and Gender Ministries to take strong measure against the 'high gesticulation' of prostitution and indecent dress code which they said is prompted by some owners of entertainment center in the country.

According to Chapter 18.1 of the panel code, prostitution is an offense against the public, "a person has committed a first degree misdemeanor if he or she operates a prostitution business or a house of prostitution; induces or otherwise purposely causes another to become involve in sexual activity as a business," the Chapter added.

JASAGBV says it is also troubling to see most of the women indecently exposing their body to attract men for sexual characteristics, something the journalists group said is in violation of Chapter 18.8 of the Penal Code and is a second degree misdemeanor.

The group is therefore calling on the government of Liberia through the both ministries to reinforce it operation code name 'Operation Save Our future' in order to remove those disadvantage and vulnerable women and girls from the streets at night.
