President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has named Associate Justice, His Honor Francis S. Korkpor, Sr., as Chief Justice Ad Interim of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia.
According to an Executive Mansion release, President Sirleaf, in a letter to Associate Justice Korkpor, said that in keeping with precedence, she has asked him to serve as Chief Justice Ad Interim until a new Chief Justice is nominated, confirmed by the Honorable Liberian Senate when they return to session in January 2013, and is then appointed and commissioned.
She urged Justice Korkpor to take on this important assignment by working with the other two Branches of Government to continue the reform of the judicial and justice systems.
It can be recalled that President Sirleaf accepted the request of His Honor Johnnie N. Lewis for early retirement from the position of Chief Justice effective Monday, September 10, 2012. He has since left the country to seek medical attention abroad.
