Kenya: Kakuzi Seeks Orders On Murang'a Estates Lifted

Agricultural company Kakuzi Ltd now wants orders stopping it from moving into two of its own coffee estates in Murang'a county set aside. Kakuzi says the orders obtained by a coffee farmer were done " through concealment of material facts". The company says the orders are "highly prejudicial".

Patrick Kirubi, a coffee and dairy farmer, moved to court two weeks ago and stopped the agricultural company from moving into the coffee estates in Makuyu, Murang'a County. He accused Kakuzi of encroaching into Kaguru and North Kitito coffee estates, which Kakuzi owns, and cutting down the crop in violation of an arrangement between them.

But in a sworn affidavit, Richard Collins the Chief Operation Manager of Kakuzi Limited says according to several agreements they entered into in 2005, Kirubi was to manage and harvest kakuzi's coffee and leasing of coffee pulping and washing facilities.
