Tunisia: Tunisair Cancels Friday's Flights to Benghazi

Tunis — "The flights scheduled Friday to Benghazi (TU 3521/3522 at 12:15 AM and TU 457/458 at 5:25 PM), have been cancelled," Tunisair carrier announces Friday in a communiqué. According to the national carrier, this decision has been made "on grounds of security" after "the events that occurred in Benghazi over the last two days."

A Tunisair flight, due to take off from Benghazi on Thursday evening (9 PM), has remained pinned to the ground and is still waiting on Friday morning for green light to leave.

According to French news Agency AFP, quoting "airport sources", air traffic has been suspended without prior notice during the night of Thursday to Friday at Benghazi airport on security grounds following the attack on the US consulate on Tuesday evening."

The same source added that "threats relating to a possible presence of mobile ground-to-air missiles could have been behind this decision."
