The United States government through its Agency for International Development (USAID) has announced that it would discontinue funding for the property rights and artisanal diamond development programs established in 2010 to assist the Liberian government improve compliance and commitment to the Kimberley process.
The decision reached by USAID and communicated to the Liberian Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy is in response to a report submitted to the United Nations by members of the panel of experts on Liberia's commitment to the diamond mining industry.
