Tunisia: Médenine - Illegal Emigration Attempt to Italy Foiled

Medenine — The Jerba Island national coast-guard foiled, on Tuesday morning, an illegal emigration attempt to Italy, security sources told TAP news agency's local correspondent.

One hundred and thirty-nine migrants, the majority of whom native of the south of Tunisia, were stopped and arrested by the coastguardsmen, added the same sources.

Several families of these illegal migrants who came to enquire about the health of their relatives said that the attempt as "an inevitable solution to the problem of unemployment, even if it is life-threatening."
