Khartoum — Sudanese security forces seized automatic machine guns and ammunition smuggled into the capital Khartoum from the war torn state of South Kordofan.

The Anti-Drug Administration in the White Nile state announced they foiled a new attempt to smuggle the weapons on a semi-trailer loaded with about 30 head of cattle coming from Aldlma area in South Korodfan.

According to the security force, 34 Kalashnikovs and ammunition were hidden on the bed of the trailer which was covered with the sand . The truck was stopped at a checkpoint on Kosti's bridge.

The director of the anti-drug unit in the white Nile state, Youssef Ibrahim Abd Al-Faraj, told reporters that they got intelligence about the operation and a specialised team was able to discover the weapons.

The acting director White Nile police, Brigadier Tarifi Idris, said the state police are well trained and equipped to perform its duties and foil "traitors'" attempts to target the Nation.

The government accuses the Sudanese rebels of planning to carry out attacks in the capital Khartoum as part of their plans against the regime.

On 1 September the director of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) in White Nile State announced the capture of a truck full of arms belonging to the Sudanese Revolutionary Front (SRF), a coalition of rebel groups from Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile.

But SRF spokesperson Abu Al Gassim Al-Haj denied the operation stressing that "it was a lie, and a fabrication aiming to terrorise, and disrupt peaceful activity of the uprising forces" in the capital.
