Kenya: Of Parties and Elections

The National Alliance Party yesterday won in the Ikinu civic seat in Githunguri after a tight competition other parties. The seat which fell vacant after the former councillor won a green card and left for the US. TNA candidate in the by-election Ann Nyambura got 3,545 votes, PNU's Samuel Gikima received 1,427 votes and ODM's Anthony Kang'ethe garnered 166 votes.

Nyambura was seen as unpopular and Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta had to plead with the residents to vote for her. Juja MP William Kabogo extensively campaigned for the TNA candidate. This forced former Limuru MP George Nyanja who to decamp from TNA to the PNU side. The two are eyeing Kiambu county governor
