It was a timely intervention by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC), Mr. George Kwame Aboagye, when he jumped to the rescue of parents in the Ahanta West District, by bailing them out of the burden of furnishing their wards with school materials during the opening of this academic calender.

Considering the hassle parents in the aforementioned District go through before eventually satisfying their wards desire, particularly, in the purchase of exercise books and other school materials for use this academic term, the intervention by the GIPC boss could not have been more appropriate.

The GIPC boss, on Tuesday, supplied free exercise books to pupils at the various public Junior High Schools in the District, from JHS one to three.

Though, the GIPC boss himself was not around, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Dofoyena, on behalf of George Kwame Aboagye, made sure that each ward in the District received his share of the free exercise books.

A total of 30,000 free exercise books were shared to 7,402 students, who make up JHS in the 47 public schools in the District, with each receiving four.

The presentation was first done at the District Education Directorate office, where the DCE and Mr. Moses Brew, a personal assistant of the GIPC boss, handed over the books to the Directorate at a short ceremony.

The District Assistant Supervising Director, Mr. Frederick Barnes, who received the items, observed that the presentation of the books could not have come at an appropriate time.

He said, every first academic term, when parents go through a lot in buying books for their wards, the intervention of the GIPC boss was not only appropriate, but worthwhile.

Mr. Frederick Barnes expressed the hope that the books would enhance teaching and learning, and as well, help improve on the performance of the students.

He, however, pledged to make sure that the books were fairly distributed.

Mr. Joseph Dofoyena said the main purpose of the presentation of the books was to help reduce the burden most parents were carrying in having to buy books and other materials for their wards this academic year.

The Ahanta West District has, over the years, not performed well in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In last year's BECE, the District recorded a 75 percent failure. This year, it recorded a 68 percent failure, with five schools scoring zero percent.
