TWO Namibian journalists were detained for an hour while reporting on a 'sensitive' case in the Katutura Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) cameraman Uushona Hiskia and Namibian Sun newspaper journalist Selma Ikela were detained for allegedly filming and taking photos just before the court session started.

The two reporters were covering a case of minor children who were arrested for allegedly robbing people in Windhoek's Otjomuise residential area over the past weekend.

Hiskia and Ikela were apparently warned not to film or photograph the minors, and they were detained in court for a short while, but no charges were laid against them.

They were later escorted by police officers to Court A, where Public Prosecutor George Mahoney informed them that he would take the matter up with Deputy Prosecutor General Jackson Kuutondokwa.

The reporters will be informed of the Prosecutor General's decision at a later stage.

The Code of Ethics for the Namibian Media forbids the identification of any person under the age of 18 who is accused of a criminal offence.
