President Mohamed Morsi's planned visit to New York to attend meetings of the United Nations General Assembly is a visit to the UN not the US, said Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr.
Preparations are still under way for an official visit to Washington later, Amr said on Thursday 20/09/2012.
It is unlikely that Morsi will have a meeting with US President Barack Obama, who will attend one day only of the UNGA meetings due to his tight schedule, the Minister said.
Morsi has quite a busy schedule during the New York visit, Amr said.
On September 26, he will deliver a speech to the UNGA and will have many meetings with other heads of states, including the French president and the UK prime minister.
He is also scheduled to meet members of the Egyptian community in the US.
Asked about the reason for delaying Morsi's visit of Brazil and Peru, which was expected following the UNGA meetings, the foreign minister said Egypt wanted to extend the time of the visit, so there was a mutual agreement to postpone, not cancel, it to another date.
The minister added that he will be leading Egypt's delegation, on behalf of Morsi, to the summit of South American-Arab Countries, which will take place in Peru on October 1-2.
