Nigeria: Contractor Gets Marching Order on Sapele Market

DELTA State Government has issued a marching order to Primi Construction Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the Sapele Modern Market, to complete work on the project by the target date of October, 2013.

It also reads the riot act to youths in the area not to harass the contractor for illegal levy, otherwise known as "deve", warning that anybody that flouted the directive would be dealt with.

The State Commissioner for Housing, Chief Paulinus Akpeki, who gave the directive during inspection of the Sapele Market, abandoned by the previous administration, said the governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and the people of Sapele want the project completed on schedule.

"You can see the people jubilating and expectant like a pregnant woman just that the contractor had returned to site, but let me tell you, as expectant as they are, they will bite you if you do not deliver," Akpeki told the contractor.

According to him, "The work program we all agreed with the consultant at Asaba, must be followed religiously. No going back on it and the date of delivery is sacrosanct. We must deliver on the schedule date for the traders to take over their stalls and if you go by the sectional completion, some of the traders may move into the stalls in the next three months."

The Commissioner disclosed that the governor was interested in timely completion of the market, adding, "That is why he has released money to the contractor to finish it".

His words, "On our part as a government, we will not fail you and you must not fail us, but be informed that one day extra after the completion date, there will be trouble".
