Kenya: Kakamega Market Delay Annoys Mayor

KAKAMEGA mayor Matias Sichere has threatened to lead traders in storming the Sh153 million market to expel the contractor and occupy the new stalls. Sichere said traders have become impatient with the contractor, Channa Construction Company, for the delay in handing over the market to the council.

The construction should have been completed by April. "This contractor has been requesting for more time for the last five months. I personally will lead the traders to occupy the stall if he will not have finished and handed over the market to the council by end of this month," he said.
