Teachers in Kitui yesterday laughed off the threat by the government to sack them if they did not resume duty immediately. County Knut secretary Jonathan Mutambu said the strike is on and no amount of threats will force them back to work. "The harmonisation salaries the cabinet granted is an obvious thing that we were expecting.

They did not offer anything on the 300 per cent salary increase as we had demanded. They have not even touched the allowances we had demanded," said Mutambu who is also the Mwingi Knut secretary. "Teachers in Mwingi and Kitui County at large should remain put until they hear from the Knut secretary general or the chairman after consultation with the union National Executive Council," said Mutambu.

NEC will meet today at the Knut headquarters in Nairobi to deliberate on the Cabinet's stand and give the way forward.
