Kenya: Rights Group Sues Council for Sewage

The Trusted Society for Human Rights Alliance has moved to court to seek orders for business premises in Narok to be closed down for releasing raw sewage into the Narok River. The chairman of the group Elijah Sikona said the Narok Town Council, district health officer and Nema have failed to provide proper waste disposals.

Sikona argued that 64, 867 people in Narok town and its environs who rely on the river for water have been exposed to danger. "Raw sewage is emptied into the river, vehicles are being washed along the river and the town's drainage system empties into the river. This must be stopped," said Sikona.

The group has also written to the Nema director general asking for quick interventions. The letter was copied to the Environment minister and PS and the district public health office.
