THE International Labour Organisation in collaboration with the International Programme on the Elimination of child labour has rescued more 2,500 children from child labour in Kilifi district. District ILO coordinator Paul Mwandikwa said the children were rescued through the ILO/IPEC-SNAP project.
Speaking to the press in his office on Monday Mwandikwa blamed child labour in the district on poverty. "The poverty index of Kilifi district is at 65 per cent and many parents are not able to cater for the needs of their children that are why most of them have chipped in to bridge the gap their parents have left," said Mwandikwa.
