Liberia: Agriculture Ministry Clarifies

press release

In reference to a recent erroneous article posted in the New Liberia newspaper on September 19, 2012, the Ministry of Agriculture wishes to clarify and confirm that the Ministry has no intention to renegotiate any of its existing agriculture concessions.

The Ministry is currently renegotiating only one pending rubber concession agreement with the Liberia Agriculture Company (LAC).

The author of the article may have generalized from this one pending negotiation.

The Ministry wishes to set the record straight: No Renegotiation Of The Existing Agricultural Concession Agreements Are Planned.

The mandate of the Ministry of Agriculture is to work for the development of agriculture in the country, and the improvement of the economic wellbeing, sustainability and general welfare of the Liberian farmers. The Ministry also has two key strategies - Food Security and Nutrition, and Poverty Reduction.
