Tanzania: War Against Malaria Proving Difficult Due to Drug Resistance

ACCORDING to global mapping by the World Health Organization (WHO), Tanzania is located in a very high malaria endemic area, a factor that compels effective preventive interventions to be put in place at all times if the 40 million population are to be on the safe side.

Worldwide malaria is classified as an epidemic on the continent that causes lots of deaths, affecting young children and pregnant women in Tanzania, consequently forcing the government to introduce different protective projects. In 2006 President Jakaya Kikwete made an extraordinary move towards the war against this most deadly disease by launching a campaign involving all stakeholders.
