Tanzania: The Saga Behind the Invasion of Kilombero Plot

Arusha — ANY petty trader in Arusha City will tell you that the best time to invade a vacant plot is when international dignitaries are converging in town, which means local authorities will be afraid to deploy a troop of policemen to teargas the 'trespassers!'

That is what happened last week when hundreds of alleged local paddlers marched to the vacant plot located adjacent to the Kilombero market, pulled down the iron sheets' fencing and scrambled to divide the plot between them. As usual armed Anti-riot police officers from the local Field Force Unit arrived in their trucks but were rendered helpless because the invaders were not only many, but very determined and some of them chanting 'We are looking forward to the bombs!'
