Zimbabwe: Mash Central Rule the Roost

1 October 2012

MASHONALAND Central proved to be a force to reckon with in local amateur boxing when they topped the tables at an invitational tournament held in Bindura over the weekend. The event was organised by the Zimbabwe Amateur Boxing Association in preparation for the national championships scheduled for November 3 in Hwange. In the lightweight category, Joshua Mhako of Mashonaland Central beat Tawanda Nzimba of Harare on points to walk away with the title while Simbarashe Chisaira won against Tamiranashe Matutu of Masvingo in the bantamweight division.

The match between Beaven Nyamhondera of the ZNA and Frank Vera of Mashonaland Central was declared a draw, as the judges could not agree on the points awarded to the two boxers. Thulani Ntundu beat Witness Mudanwa of Masvingo in the light-welterweight division. In the women's section, Yolanda Kureya of Mashonaland Central knocked out Ashine Mudapakati in the second round of their bantamweight fight while her teammate Tanaka Chavhundura overpowered Elizabeth Moyo from Bulawayo.
