Zimbabwe: Cairns for Royal Event

RYAN Cairns is expected to lead several top Sunshine Tour professionals when they take part in the Royal Harare Summer Golf Day this Friday. Cairns, who is the leading Zimbabwean on the Sunshine Tour order of merit, will give every participant an opportunity to play with him on the par three hole number five.

Cairns won his first professional event on the Big Easy Tour, the Sunshine Tour's developmental programme, in March. He also won the Vodacom Origins of Golf at Simola Golf and Country Estate on May 11.

This tournament is part of the Sunshine Tour. He secured the victory in a playoff where he beat Vaugh Groenewald after chipping in for an eagle.

Louise Ward, an official at Royal Harare, said they were looking forward to a great day on Friday.

"This year our summer golf day will be graced by Zimbabwe Sunshine Tour winning champion Ryan Cairns and several other surprises of the day.

"The teams of four will cost US$160 while an individual will pay US$40," Ward said. Cairns is expected to take part in the South African Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championships where big names like Charl Schwartzel, Retief Goosen, Ernie Els and Luis Ooistuhusein are expected to take part.
