Somalia: Senior Turkish Official Injured in Central Somalia

Galkacyo — A senior Turkish official was shot and injured Tuesday in Somalia's central volatile city of Galka'yo, some 750 Km (465 miles) north-east of Somali capital Mogadishu, reports said.

"He was injured in clashes between his security guards and armed groups at a checkpoint between Ba'adweyne and Galka'yo towns controlled by Puntland," Witnesses said.

The wounded official is confirmed to be Mustafa Hashimi Pulat the Head of East Africa Operations for the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) which has been visiting in the country to conduct development projects in Somalia's Puntland's region.

He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Galka'yo for treatment.

TIKA has carried out several development projects in Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Galka'yo is divided into two zones, where the main northern portion forms part of Puntland state, while its southern tip is governed by the Galmudug administration.
