Tanzania has made significant advances in cutting maternal deaths thanks to a United Nations-sponsored programme that brings public and private sectors together to resolve one of the most stubborn but preventable woes afflicting the developing world, top officials said today.
At a news conference at UN Headquarters in New York, attended by Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Dr. Helen Agerup, head of the H&B Agerup Foundation, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon lauded the Global Strategy for Women's and Children's Health for advancing concrete partnerships on the ground.
