Nigeria: Re - the Bully Called Sanusi

The recent controversy over the proposed N5,000 note (now rested) by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) once again underscores my belief that something has to be done about column writing and columnists in our print media.

All the columns I read kept on re-echoing the view that introducing N5,000 notes would "kill the economy"; but I hardly came across any columnist who was able to say exactly how. In fact, most of the people quoted in most of the reports were politicians who have little or no knowledge of macro-economic theory or monetary economics in particular. My views were the same I expressed in my column (then in the Daily Sun) in 2005 when the apex bank introduced the N1,000 note.
