Namibia: Murder Suspects Appear in Court

3 October 2012

Two men accused of killing a man last Saturday in Greenwell Matongo made a routine appearance in the Katutura Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The two accused, Jerry Jesaya (21) and Vilho Leonard (26) made a preliminary court appearance before Magistrate Constancia Olivier. They stand accused of shooting Silas Mupopiwa Joseph (29) to death on September 29. The deceased identified only as Joseph was shot in the back and killed, it is alleged. Following the brief court appearance Jesaya said the deceased threw stones at him and since his firearm had only one bullet in it, he did not want to use the remaining bullet to fire a warning shot. However, he said since the firearm was already cocked, a shot went off and killed the victim.
