Gambia: Training for Hotline/Helpline Operators Wraps-Up

The Department of Social Welfare (DoSW) in partnership with Child Protection Alliance (CPA) recently concluded a three-day training for staff of the Child Care Centre, Shelter and those operating the hotline/helpline.

The main objectives of the training, which was held at the Social Welfare Shelter for the Elderly in Bakoteh, were; to build the capacity of the staff to be able to provide the requisite support such as psychosocial, health education among other things to child victims of sexual exploitation; to enhance the skills of staff in properly counseling the children in need of their services as well as be able to professionally record and refer their cases to relevant offices when necessary, and to promote the reporting of child trafficking and child sexual abuse cases to relevant authorities. The training was funded by the British High Commission.
