The Delta State government has opened four more relief camps in the state to accommodate and cater for flood victims, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Chief Tony Nwaka, said yesterday in Asaba.

Nwaka told newsmen that with the opening of the four new camps, the state now has nine relief camps to cater for flood victims.

He said the new camps are located at Ashaka, Ussisa, Aboh all in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, as well as Abari in Patani Local Government Area. He said the decision to open more camps was to ensure that for every community or local government affected by flood, there is a rehabilitation centre close by to accommodate and cater for the victims.

The commissioner said the number of displaced persons accessing the camps on daily basis was on the increase, as according to him, the Ashaka relief camp already has more than 500 displaced persons.
