Africa: Peace Corps, Malaria Experts Hone Strategy Against Disease

Washington — Peace Corps volunteers from 11 African countries gathered in Thiès, Senegal, for 10 days in late September to share the most effective strategies for combating malaria across the continent. Via Skype, volunteers also engaged some of the world's foremost authorities on malaria prevention and discussed methods to bring the latest research back to their communities.

"Having the opportunity to learn from and talk with some of the top minds in the field of malaria prevention all at once is a rare and special experience for the Peace Corps' Africa health volunteers," said Stomping Out Malaria in Africa project director Chris Hedrick. "Coming together for this innovative training prepares volunteers to go back into the field and share what they've learned with fellow Peace Corps Africa volunteers, all of whom are making a significant contribution to the international effort to eliminate malaria."
