Kenya: Sh538 Million Boost for Bomet

At least Sh538 million has been spent on rural electrification in Bomet since 2008. Rural Electrification Authority CEO Zakary Ayieko said 163 public facilities had been identified in Sotik constituency for electrification, comprising of 49 trading centers, 78 secondary schools and 36 health centers.

Ayieka said that since inception, REA had financed 33 rural electrification projects in Sotik at cost of Sh141.6 million. He said the Sotik projects had cumulatively electrified 141 public facilities including 36 trading centers,63 secondary schools and 29 health centers.

Ayieko was speaking during the tour of REA funded projects in Sotik where he said some more of such projects will be undertaken at Komoronga and Saruchet markets this year.

The amount will also cover other areas in the constituency this year.They include Chebongi,Cheptangulgei,Kapsingei,Saruchat,Singorian and Togomin schools.Some three health centers, Kapkesembe, Kiricha and Saruchat will also benefit.

He said balance of 8 trading centers,9 secondary schools and three health centers will be electrified by June 2013 with the level of electrification in Sotik standing now at 88 per cent.
